President’s Message

I have created this newsletter in order to help keep our membership, as well as the electrical industry as a whole, up to date on EIAA activities. Please forward any pertinent information to me @ This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

PV Training: A couple of months ago I was approached by Energy Efficiency Alberta (EEA) regarding solar PV code training for electrical inspectors. Initially a meeting was held involving EEA, NAIT, the Solar Energy Society of Alberta (SESA) and myself. The end result is that EEA is going to fund 5-6 code sessions for electrical inspectors which will be facilitated by Eric Smiley, PEng of SESA. A trial run of the seminar is being held in June with other dates to be announced shortly thereafter and held in the early fall throughout Alberta. Seminar dates and locations will be announced later.

Extra-low Voltage Installations: I recently attended a low voltage meeting sponsored by the ECAA and hosted by Jason Burke, an extra low-voltage contractor. The issue here is there is a general lack of awareness that most of these installations require an electrical permit, a fact that is not well-known. More to come on this issue.

2018 CE Code Training: The ECAA has partnered with Marex Canada in offering code update seminars throughout Alberta. The seminar is recognized by the Safety Codes Council as meeting the mandatory code update training for Master Electricians and Group A Electrical SCO’s. Contact ECAA for seminar dates and registration information.
